I was in Washington DC recently for a wonderful conference. My BFF and I did not rent a car because the conference was going to keep us so busy. Imagine our excitement as we discovered one of our friends had rented a car and just happened to be available Sat eve after the event. We had to decide between a steak dinner or going to see the sites! Boy we were hungry- but we were in DC for goodness sakes! How can you NOT go see the sites? We jumped into the car, without a plan, and scurried off into our adventure.
We did drive past the Washington Monument but wanted to get out and walk so we could get a good view and make it to the Lincoln Memorial. Someone had the bright idea of getting closer to the Lincoln Memorial so we didn’t have to walk as far (ok, it was MY brilliant idea!) As we got closer, we passed it very quickly. We tried to get off a road to get onto another one and ended up taking a wrong turn. It got us turned around.
Our friend (the driver) said, “It’s amazing what one wrong turn will do to ya.” Thus a blog was born! But not before we started going down a one-way street- THE WRONG WAY! (All I see is headlights right now! Yep, a little traumatized!)
It is amazing what one wrong turn will do to ya.
That “one drink” after 90 days of staying clean and sober.
The innocent cup of coffee with an old boyfriend from before you met your husband.
The little white lie you told to your boss that led to a bigger lie to cover the first lie.
Just one peak at the porn on the internet, it won’t hurt…she’ll never know.
We see it everyday. One wrong turn led to another and another and another…. Eventually you are going down a one-way street with headlights coming your way and you don’t know which way to go.
So you are wondering what happened? Tammy was yelling for her to go backwards onto another street. I was yelling at her to do a u-turn. And she couldn’t make a decision because there was too much chaos and yelling! So she backed up a little, did a u-turn and ran over the curb with the rental car while she GUNNED it out of there (Can I say, Thank you Jesus!)
Isn’t that how it happens too? Chaos, confusion, multiple things coming at you because of your one wrong turn?
The good news is, we can catch ourselves and make things right after one wrong turn. It doesn’t mean we have to keep going. We could have stopped and found directions (stubborn ladies!) We had other choices but we were determined to do it ourselves and get back to those monuments! This led us to not seeing the sites OR getting our steak dinner!
If you have found yourself making a wrong turn, seek help. Talk to a friend, a pastor, or call Imagine Hope for help from a Therapist. One wrong turn doesn’t have to lead to chaos, confusion, and pain that can last for years to come.
Thank you for reading my blog. I hope you have a week full of good directions, green lights, and reaching your destinations (goals!)
